Shuster was born in Canada and moved to the States when he was just 10 years old. He died in the US. I'd say he was influenced more by that country that ours. Claiming Superman as 'Canadian' is a stretch IMO - Heritage propaganda aside.
The only real connection is that Shuster said that he modelled Metropolis after Toronto and the Daily Planet after the Toronto Star. He could just as easily have had NYC and the NY Times.
Also from Wikipedia: "Superman fights for "truth, justice, and the American way...Superman is a fictional character, a superhero that appears in comic books published by DC Comics, and is widely considered an American cultural icon"
The fact that these coin may not be sold directly to the US could be an opportunity for Canadian flippers if the US market is widely exposed to them.
I don't think anyone knows how these coins will preform as investments (either short or long term). We all just have opinions.

@ jpaiva83, I don't mind creative license in telling a little story - the Naismith one about inventing basketball comes to mind - but the Shuster thing is too much. The woman named Lois, the train, going to see "cousin Frank" in Toronto, the sketch "that might be worth something someday". Better they had a couple of teenagers discussing Superman, and how Clark Kent works for the Daily Star, or how the skyline of Metropolis was based on Toronto - surely even then a lot more impressive than Cleveland's.
How about this for an even more tenuous connection: Superman is published by DC Comics, owned by Time-Warner. Warner Bros. was founded by Jack Warner (and his brothers), who was born in London, Ontario. And Elmer Fudd is also a Warner Bros. character.
Do you think we've wandered far enough off topic yet?

Margot Kidder. And some of those Superman movies were filmed in Alberta, because Alberta looks just like Kansas, if you ignore the mountains. I found this link to Superman's Canadian connections. Maybe this is what someone at the Mint read to give them the idea. http://www.supermanhomepage.com/com...canadian-way

Thanks for the link, moejaber! Quite a few Superman coins coming out. The most affordable is the 50 cent Superman coin & stamp set. I find the most appealing one, the Superman hologram silver coin. I'm curious about the achromatic hologram (a three-dimensional feature with nanotechnology-based imaging). The only thing is the high price. Looking forward to seeing a pic of it and the others!!

Take a look at "The Coin Shoppe" website.
Respect to site owner - the pictures of the Superman coins are there.
Added: 3 coins could be enough to satisfy the fans. I can misstake, but IMO couple of them will be popular.
Liked the "Shield" - clear and simple, enameled coin.
