Hey, isn't Wolverine Canadian? I'm pretty sure he's from out west like Alberta or B.C.
Now that would be a cool coin!!

A lot of talk that the 'Canadian Connection' has for the most part only become newsworthy since the RCM release. I find that deplorable. At 51 years old, I've know of that connection for my whole life - It wasn't so long ago that the CBC ran a 'vignette' about the origins of Superman and the 'Toronto connection'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9GYWbhBoHM

Quote: He dreamed up the designs on the Superman Gold and he was born in Canada and attributed the Metropolis idea to his experience of Toronto..after all he probably never actually saw New York. So whats with the downplaying of the Canadian connection to Superman anyway? How much more Canadian could he be? Little revisionist. He left Canada when he was 9 or 10 years old. He was a child. Toronto, unlike NYC, was a small city then. There were no real 'skyscrapers'. He never worked in a newspaper office, he was simply a paperboy. The tallest building in Toronto when Shuster lived there was a mere 21 floors. No wonder SM could leap over it. By contrasts, this is NYC in the 1920's.... I'm all for celebrating the contributions of Canadians, but this one is a very lose claim to Canadiana IMO. Sorry but that vignette is about 99% fiction.

Despite all the excitement over the gold Superman, the silver Supermans are only selling for a small premium over list price. Unless you are a dealer, it is basically breakeven on ebay. Worse so, if you are BC, you have to pay PST, so if you buy a Superman Hologram you will be paying $139. That coin is selling for between $150 and $160 on ebay. So its possible you will lose money by re-selling it. While the Mint has sold out most of the Superman coins, the post office still have them available online. Plus local post offices have tons of them. Sure it is a success for the Mint but unless you are lucky enough to get a gold coin, flippers are not going to make much money.

So is Superman a Kryptonian or an American seeing as how he came to earth as a baby?
Its interesting that when we are educated about the true history of iconic characters in our Culture we , in Canada, always defer to the almighty US of A.....but the USA has always been even more of a melting pot than Canada.....their greatest scientists came from Germany..their food tastes come from everywhere but the USA and their coin designs came from the Greeks including the Superman Series which is a concept derived from the ancient Greeks and designed by Shuster who was born a Jewish Canuck and grew up in the US but the fact is like it or not a Canadian designed Superman.. which is a great reason for a coin series.

Well, I have to agree with Pfrien. I, too, underestimated the value of this coin big time. It's an ok design, nothing super-special and I would liked to have seen a .9999, even if it were a higher issue price. I agree with Pfrien that the gold coin will hold up its collector value and I have to respect that. By the way things are going, I'm thinking it will peak even higher than $5000, possibly double that. Then settle down to about $2500 minimum. The silver coins will probably do well also, but the mintage is much higher and much more selection. I kind of regret not getting the gold coin, but somehow it just doesn't agree with me as a piece I adore. But I sure feel like a ditz not getting at least one as a valuable collector's item...

@soulbrotherno.3..re wolverine...sounds promising! superhuman agent of the Canadian government.a natural for the RCM! All the silver wolf collectors would go nuts....and the comic collectors of course as far as the Superman silver coins goes....one of my coin selling regrets is selling all my 2006 1/2 oz silver wolves for bullion value! There is a coin that has held and increased value way beyond its weight..because folks love the design.....Superman silver will go way up and is selling at approx 30% markup across the board with some really big numbers being listed which kind of shows that there is a general expectation that these coins will be big winners.....

Actually I see the prices of the Silver Superman dropping in the next few weeks as everyone receive their coins. Once the market becomes flooded prices drop. We see it time and time again. The main problem is the 10,000 mintage of the silver coins. That is way too high. Every coin this year with a mintage of 10,000 issued by the Mint has been a dud except for the glass butterfly.

I have to admit, despite my opposition to the RCM's marketing technique the Superman coins have been quite a success. Probably a sign that I need to retire.

From the RFD forum: A gold Superman has sold for $3018 CDN. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-Canada...523924931848The gold coin has appreciated 400% in one week which is quite remarkable. Too bad the silver coins have not follow suit. Again, the quantity of the silver coins are too high at 10,000 and 15,000 to go much higher than current prices. The big dealers like Gatewest and Colonial acres still have stock which is keeping a lid on the silver from rising too much. Plus you can still order from Canada Post which has all of the coins except for the gold one.

Anyone ever heard of harvestor investments? Just saw a gold superman coin on their site for 899$, now it is 1499$... but I have never heard of them and it seemed sketchy lol. So if any of you have dealt with them or want to take the chance, check them out.
edit: Now it is $2100 lol. I couldn't find anything about them online except the places they are 'accredited' by. Seemed weird.
edit2: $2700 now, took them only a few minutes :P
