Yeup. Bought 100 UK coins over 2 lots and only now do I find out that the whole lot was found diggingp pipes on an estate. Well, heres the ol' issue: I just sent 36 of those coins away...so I'm going to try and retrieve them, put the first lot back together and see if they are still recordable (found a long while ago, so perhaps not).

Its a hoard of barbarian issued coins, which I dont believe is a common thing. woopsy.

If you know the location of where this Hoard was found, then if not done so already, a Finds Liaison Officer can help you out. I'm not sure if the Treasury Act of 1996 would cover Finds predating the Act.

I assume "Barbarian issued" as in locally produced Unofficial Antoninianii and AE4s?

As you know, during the Roman era of Britain, the Anglo-Saxons did not control the island, so the "Barbarian issued" is a misnomer. Certainly the Romano-British elite would still look at the enslaved Britons as "Barbarians" and no doubt likewise they thought of their masters as Barbarians too.

In England these types are very common, but still of interest due to the history.
There are collectors of Unofficial Issues, such as of City Commemoratives, especially if the coin is chunky and has a nice abstract design.

Below is an Unofficial Issue of an "Urbs Roma", AE4, a metal detecting find from Suffolk.
Sold last year to a buyer from the U.S.A. for £11.

Im trying to gather what I have left for recording but it might not be possible. They were found a long time ago (could predate the new Treasure Act) by a guy and just boxed up. His relatives sold them because he died. They dont know even vaguely where they come from or when, just that the guy was digging pipelines on an estate. And I dont believe I got all of them either, it seems that some where removed on finding. No sign of whether they've been recorded or not and I've already sold 35 of them. Well, you win some and you lose some.

Oh, and not to mention the fact that soem of them are clearly not from the same find spot (about 50 are very clearly from the same little area, 40 are questionable and id say 10 are most likely not from the same find - perhaps he found them over time whilst digging.)
