Hello All,

Been lurking here a while, and thought I would get around to asking a question .

I recently got back into collecting, and have been working on a set of circulated Lincoln Cents. My primary source has been CRH for keepers. Along the way, I have found a few nicely toned coins that are pleasing to my eye (nothing rare or fancy, just nice looking).

What is the best way to store these to keep the toning they currently have? I am thinking coin tubes (to store them in bulk). Will that do the trick, or will the toning change over time no matter what?

Thanks!

Self Slabbing is a good method for keeping toning intact. Since these are US coins you shouldn't have any difficulty finding sizes. Coin Tubes haven't worked too well for me from the past and I don't recommend them. Any airtight capsule should work too. Good Luck!

I like a Mylar cards to store toned coins, but only as a last resort option. Slabs would not hurt either, but Mylar cards are cheap.

Many methods are available. Naturally one is what is called a flip. It's cardboard with a piece of mylar on it. You place your coins in them and fold over. You can still see your coin too. Most staple the sides clcosed and some tape them shut. They come in a multitude of sizes and are available at most coin stores or coin supply places.
OR you could just put them in those plastic rolls and seal the top. Plastic flips are also available.
Naturally you could just send to me and no more worries.
OR you could do as I did a long time ago where I placed some Cents in a liquid plastic and made a pen holder from them.

Mylar / cardboard flips are OK, just dont store the flips in soft PVC album pages, but I store those in museum quality non PVC album pages.
Air tight capsules are better though.

If you're really concerned use Intercept holders in 2x2s then store them in a cool dry and dark spot, bag the coins in a zip lock bag air removed, with a desiccant pack, then store that in a snap top Tupperware box. Layers to keep damp bad air out, as moisture, and heat are your biggest enemies, then light.

Desiccant packs can help keep moisture and humidity to a reasonable level, just keep an eye on the the desiccant and renew it or replace it as needed.

I had a huge loss on a bunch of Indian Head cents in AU/BU all nicely toned and Red or Red Brown they quickly turned all brown and not an attractive brown after I moved from a very dry Denver, Colorado climate to a damp Houston, Texas sub tropical climate. I didn't store them properly, other than in a cardboard box, in non PVC safe flips, in a closet that got pretty warm in the summer. That was an expensive lesson, never again. Also had a lot of my Morgans turn pretty dark brown in TPG slabs they were just in a cardboard box, in the same closet.
