Hi-

My wife and I deal in 20th century die varieties as full-time dealers... VAMs are an entirely different world!

We have hopes of learning the ropes and being better acquainted with VAMs, it's a very interesting segment of the die variety niche.

I guess in short- I'm hoping for a "mulligan"... We've spent a couple of hours with the VAM book and haven't definitively attributed much.

I'll be happy to take close-ups of any area of the coin pictured, just need a little direction in figuring out exactly which VAM this is (we are well aware that most VAMs don't bring a strong premium).

Thank you for your help in advance!

The coin below is original and attractively toned. It will grade MS63 to 64.

What do you see?

By the way- there's a lot going on in the way of clashes, die breaks and the like that don't show in the whole coin shots.

Just tell me what area to focus on and I'll provide high quality close ups. Thanks again!

It's the 79 reverse and looks to be a C3 reverse (Vams 220-232). Look for a listing with a clash and compare the diagnosics. I can't access VamWorld from work or I'd do it for you.

I'll start there and see what I can find in the book, thank you SeatedNut. I'll report back shortly.

Still completely lost, lol. I have a lot to learn...

It's not VAM-220 or 223, I understand those are the better varieties for this type?

VAM 210B2. Only took me 3 tries to get it right...

I consider the color on both sides in addition to the overall surface quality to be a greater benefit than the die variety.

Good call judd1552. I don't think I've ever seen a clasher with hair transfer off the Eagles' left wing like that. Cool...I want one now...

Thank you very much Judd. I bought it as an MS63, but am hoping that the PCGS will like the color enough to call it an MS64... mostly, I wanted to make sure I wasn't sending off something I shouldn't without attribution.

I appreciate the help, I think that buying a bag of Morgans from another dealer friend of mine in Montana is going to be the best way to "dive in" to VAMs. I'm pretty sure I'll be back asking for more pointers.

Thank you for the help!
