King Rama IX. Those glasses always give him away. Kind of like Clark Kent in reverse.

I thought I was the only person who saw the resemblance...

But instead of having a secret identity as a superhero, Rama IX (real name Bhumibol Adulyadej) is a king by day, jazz musician by night:

The date on it is BE2536 = AD1993.
As for his being a jazz musician at night I'm fairly sure he's had to give that up due to frail health but no doubt still a fan.

Oh wow.
I have a copy of the LP, "Falling Rain, Songs by H.M. the King of Thailand" â€" I've made a few CD copies for friends, & as a result I sent a $5 cheque a while back to the Royal Thai Ambassador in Washington, by way of royalties to royalty. The last 4 tracks on that CD are also on the LP I have, although completely different recordings of course.

But, yeah, the glasses are quite distinctive. I think he originally used them on his official portrait to distinguish himself from his elder brother, King Ananda Mahidol, who died under mysterious circumstances (the official ruling was "suicide" â€" he had a .38 pistol in his hand, & a .45 bullet in his head!).
