The Euro doesn't get much love, but I have a soft spot for it. As a kid on a visit to Austria, the idea of a common currency seemed magical, that everyone could "get along" so well. The national reverses gave me hours of fun sorting through the small change my Austrian family had.

Recently, a friend gave me another little baggie of loose Euro change (with one Croatian 5 lipa mixed in...). I was shocked! The shiny, new coins I had seen as a child already show heavy wear from over 10 years of circulation. What had seemed like a too-distant example of perfection now looked to me like a real, working currency. This re-affirmed my interest in the Euro, and what countries will be next to issue their own. I thought we could have a look at the Euros the members of CCF already have.

Would a 14/20-day Euro thread work, or is interest too low?

There are a couple options in formatting...
- 10 days: One for each denomination from 1 cent to 2 euros, with an extra two days for higher-denomination commemoratives and NIFC.
- 14 days: One for each year from 1999 to 2013. Makes an even two weeks. On the other hand, it might seem a bit random.
- 20 days: One for each nation. The problem are the bottlenecks, like the Vatican and Monaco.

I'm leaning towards 14 days myself. Does anyone else have some Euros they'd like to show off?

There are also contemporary counterfeits in the mix:

Quote:
Wikipedia: Approximately 100,000 counterfeit euro coins are taken from circulation annually, and a similar number is seized before it can be released. Given a total circulation of 56 billion coins, counterfeit coins are relatively rare. About half the counterfeits feature the German national design, but counterfeits have been detected for every issuing country. The majority of counterfeit coins are €2 (60% in 2011), with most of the rest being €1, and a few €0.50 coins. The number of counterfeit €2 coins being found annually is decreasing, while numbers of counterfeit €1 and 50-cent coins are increasing.

Why set a day limit on it. Just leave it open forever.
