Interesting topic uh.? What I was curious about is this. How many of you are going to collect the new mint set coins (satin finish) as an additional coin to the 2005 issues or are you just going to consider it part of the regular uncirculated coins..?

I do not consider them part of the regular uncirculated coins but I will also not be collecting them. I do not collect proofs for my collection either.

I think that from a value perspective, these sets will be hot for a long time to come. These sets match the rest of the products now minted. While I do not like the designation being given, these coins look much better in my opinion.

I don't look at them as anything special. I get unc and proof sets every year and this was just this years offering. They ARE just that, the standard '05 mint set. IMHO, to be considered "special" then the mint would have had to offer this "satin" set as well as the regular set. It clearly states what it is right on the packaging. The '66 set had "special mint set" printed right on the box making it a "special" set.

I am with ND on this one. I am not going out of my way to collect them, well....maybe the Buffalo and Ocean View nickels as they are a one time deal, but will probably continue to purchase a mint set to say I have them? Not sure yet what I will do about my albums so I guess time will tell.
I must agree with ND the quality is MUCH better than the business strikes. I have already seen high quality graded Buffalo nickels for sale in the MS66 thru MS70 and none of the business strikes have reached that level of quality. MS-65 and MS-66 is about tops for the business strikes in the buffalo if you can find them.
Okay, I confess that I have gone a little overboard with my buffalo hunting this spring. I thought I was done when I purchased the 40 buffalo proofs and all those rolls of business strikes and then, WHAT does the mint do? They come out with a SATIN buffalo and I am back on the hunt again! Well the satins are starting to roll in but I still have the desire to lay back more of both the buffalo and the ocean view satins? Guess it keeps me off the streets!!!
Last but not least it is my humble opinion that the satin coins MOST definitely, whether you like them or not, will increase in value the quickest as they will be the lowest produced coins of 2005 and the highest quality, aside from the proofs, as they are already putting the business strikes to shame! Will be great to look back on this series next year and see what has developed.

Hey CIScO I said the exact same things about foreign coins for over 20 years and now it is probably one of the greatest things I have ever done! The internet has opened a whole new world when it comes to buying, selling and trading world wide and I enjoy this aspect of collecting very much. Also learning a ton of history that was, and still not, taught in school! Guess the MOST important aspect of this hobby is WE all free to collect what ever our hearts desires and there is no FEE for sharing on a great forum such as this!!!
