Climb4, I'm pretty sure this one's a VAM-33. The reverse is shared with VAM-44, which is known as the "King of VAM's" and is almost a "set your own price" kind of coin. If those cotton bolls are tripled, get that coin into a safe deposit box NOW.

OK, I'm tentatively guessing VAM-33. It's one of the more common varieties, but no less interesting for that. Climb4, check this out:

Thanks for the link! Now I'm really confused. lol No doubling of the stars makes me wonder if it is a VAM-33. The list of VAM's is pretty overwhelming to look trough especially with such minor differences/similarities. You guys must have much better eyes that I!
Looking at this Morgan under glass I can see a faint line (looks like a possible die crack?)from the "D" in dollar going to the edge of the "T". This line is right at the top of all the letters on the left side. This is NOT a straight line and it runs right through the tip of the wing. The only part the camera was able to capture is from the "D" in dollar to the "E" in one...





I will be visiting BadThad next weekend and I will leave the coin with him for some very detailed pictures that may help. He has a microscope with a camera attached so pics are extremely detailed.

Thank you for clarifying about the VAM's as well as letting me know what I hold in my hand. If my Brother and ever decide to let some of these go we need to know what we have. I hate being a sucker! We have a lot of studying to do thanks to all the fine folks on the forum.

Before I perused the second page, my guess was a VAM 33. The VAM 33 has one strong tail feather showing under number four tail feather and weak remnants under feathers four and five and five and six. A faint tail feather sometimes shows under number six on early strike specimens. NGC consensus report shows 185 VAM 33 'doubled talons' in all grades. My guess is your coin will grade MS 62 and I put the value of your coin around one hundred and sixty dollars.
By the way, much, much nicer pictures, hence the higher grade. You have a very nice coin.
