Ok so who is going to the Philly show next week?
I will be there on Friday Sept 20 pretty much all day.
Anyone interested in meeting up for a quick hello and maybe a show and tell?
I know I will likely be in a frenzy for a the first few hours but it would be nice to put some names to faces. Edited by jerseyben 09/12/2013 07:42 am

I've been looking forward to it like a kid at Christmastime. Work should make Saturday my day, although irrational paranoia that all the goodies will be gone may make me sneak in for an hour on Thursday. Of course, a bunch of unexpected household expenses have just appeared, as if on cue, to make me nervous about putting any money down.

You are correct. I went to a few Baltimore shows on Saturday and it was just plain sad. Dealers packing up to go home by noon. Since then I make it a point to attend on Fridays.

Good to know. Seems like a weird, inconvenient choice of dates for a show to me, though.

If I run into any CCF people there, I'll buy you scrapple!

I often see folks I "sorta know" at the conventions. In the past I have run into folks from both coin clubs that I belong to as well as dealers with whom I have done business in the past.
I think I look forward to the big coin shows more than anything else!
The hard part at shows is knowing when to take a break. For the first few hours it is like a big rush around frenzy. Eventually my body tells me I better get something to eat/drink and visit the restroom.
I will say that of all the CCF folks, I think you are one of the ones who I would like to meet most since we have a lot to discuss as far as local history and colonial coins goes.

Going to try to leave work early tomorrow. If that doesn't give me enough time at the show, I'll be back Saturday, but looks like Friday's not going to be doable. If anyone wants scrapple, the offer still stands!

Never had the scrapple in those parts, though I hear tell it's excellent. Some good Pennsylvania Dutch scrapple, though, and other nice goodies, across Arch Street from the Whitman show, at the Reading Terminal Market.

I'll be there. Not sure what day (hopefully Friday) but I really have my choice between days besides Sat.

Happy hunting in Philly, guys! I can't make that show, but am planning on attending the Virginia Numismatic Association convention and show in Fredricksburg next weekend with my youngest son and some friends. It's an annual event for all of us and we make a day of it (lots of history in the area). As for scrapple - I had a room mate from Bethlehem, PA, a number of years ago when I was attending school in Washington, DC. He always had a supply of that stuff from home in the refrigerator. As I recall it had a deathly grey color to it prior to frying it up. It wasn't all that bad, tho. We always had friends over for big breakfasts on the weekend. Yum.

Friday for me. I'm not too interesting a fellow, but if anybody wants to meet up or something, I'm down.

Enjoy the show, guys. It falls during my biweekly "bad period" of work. While you're there, I'm going to be working approximately 4 miles from you as the crow flies; between now and Sunday morning I'm going to be on the clock for 36 hours, and I'll get a grand total of 10-12 hours' sleep for the whole period. Even though I'll have Sunday free, I get off at 7:30AM and the last thing I'll want to do is turn around and cross the river to spend the day in Philly.

Jerseyben, go down to the Reading Terminal Market this is the place to eat at! If you have not done this. @SsuperDdave hang in there and you will move up. From some friends.

If you cannot find something that leaves you walking out groaning under the extra weight of what you've just eaten, you didn't do the Reading Terminal right. And it's adjacent to the Convention Center....
