i recently got into russian coinsand needless to say my starting piece was one of the most accessible kopek coins from the early 20th century to WWII. I just came across 5 kopek silver coins from the earliest of its series, from 1838 to the 1840s. Searching on google brought nothing up about their catalogue value and so I'm wondering if anybody has any expertise in this area or if there are price guides online that I haven't found yet. I originally thought them to be fake until I found them on coinwiki.

This doesn't answer your question about silver 5 kopek prices on line but I would like to show this Russian silver 5 kopek 1830 obverse brockage. - Best, Bill

Strange, no matter how specifically or vaguely I indicate this coin I can't get the page you've found to show up, and even clicking on the link it says "database error". But thanks for your help though! Now I'm just wondering why NGC's website isn't so helpful on my computer haha

Yes, it is part of my collection of Russian mis-strikes. Here is another, this one dating 1839-1843. (Sorry about the hole). -

pity that along the way someone decided to use it as jewelry. the details look to have survived pretty well through the ages. gotta wonder why some people did that haha. so do you specialize in Russian coins then? I used to think that earlier russian coins don't exist in easy to obtain prices and good condition, if at all, but I see now that I've been mistakened happily

Russian coins are pricy if you are looking for decent grade. Not too sure what you are looking at but they have been steadily rising for the past 5 or more years.

have more people been getting into Russian coins too then? I can't say i'll be looking for the particularly rare or pristine coins, as much as i'd love to own them, so I suppose I won't be that affected. I recently found out about the 5 kopek copper coins from the 1780s ( I think). was selling locally for $60, local currency. didn't manage to get a good look at its condition but I think i'll be looking out for it now.
still, I think I've done pretty well with my first few russian coins. can you imagine scoring MS state, or at least close to that, coins for under $3? :D

Not too sure if it helps what you are looking for but this is part of my collection. Rest of my collection can be seen at either omnicoin or my homepage. Haven't really gone through sorting them out. http://gxseries.com/numis/rus_imper...802_1917.htmYou should be able to get decent 5 kopek copper coin for under 60 dollars.
