I think ill ask for a detector for christmas. In the UK we have all sorts of crap to be finding - Lead blobs, bottle caps, pull tabs, rusty pennies.
One day you need to detect in the UK - we have stuff older than 100 years in the most modern parts of town. You can find medieval spindle whorls and just go 'urgh, another bleedin whorl'. But coins dont fair so well in our acid soil...apart from the gold. From celt to modern. Occasionally gold from places like ancient greece turns up, too.

$4.07 and you can't spring for the food? Cheap! I had an unexpected (but welcome) day off today so I went to a new park and found a handful of coins, a key, and SILVER! Found a .925 pure silver ring. I am cleaning the coins up now, but will post a pic on a thread as soon as the cleaning is done.
