Has anyone else thought of adding the 2013 Fort McHenry Quarter as a companion piece to their 2012 Star-Spangled Banner commemorative coins?
Right now I am just going with a proof quarter to go along with my proof dollar coin.
I did think about getting the 5 ounce version of the Fort McHenry release but I have never seen one of the 5 ounce coins in person.

Good idea, Kena The Fort McHenry business strikes turned out better than I thought, and now is a good time to pick up the 5-oz. pucks ALL of the ATB designs look better in the 5-oz. format. My personal vote for "most benefits from 5-oz size versus regular" is Chaco Culture.

I bought a 5oz 2013P Uncirculated Fort McHenry and it is beautiful. However the silver proof quarter really pops & blows away the 5oz P-Unc version. A lot of times the 5oz bullion coin has more of a proof finish.
So IMO, a proof-like Fort McHenry 5oz bullion coin would be a better companion for your collection.
Which 2012 Star-Spangled Banner commemorative coins do you have?

I only have the silver proof Star-Spangled Banner commemorative dollar coin and a proof silver quarter is on its way to me from a CCF member.
My wallet coin not afford the $5 gold coin. Not sure that my wallet can afford 5 ounce coin at this moment in time.

The 5oz coins are very nice though I dont always think they look better than the quarters. The more detailed designs seem to really pop on the 5oz wheres where the more simplistic ones look good but not necessarily an improvement. The silver proof quarter versions are generally georgeous and I would agree that that 5oz ones probably would have looked stunning if they did them the same way.

If you can spring for the bullion (around $128-$132 per coin as of this posting) I'd go for it. The uncirculated P is as good as always, but the design really pops out in the proof like finish.

I really like the 5 ounce coins - for size and detail. That said - the Fort McHenry really really is impressive in the silver quarter proof version. The fireworks literally pops... with the proof fields behind it. It doesn't look nearly as dramatic on the 5 ounce - P or Bullion coins.

The Silver Proof Quarter will make a nice companion to the SSB Proof Dollar.

Thanks for the inputs. I think right now, I will settle for the silver proof quarter.

2013 Fort McHenry Quarter is a good collector coin for its low mintage of just 25,000 coins, though I personally don't really like the ‘fireworks' on the coin' reverse.
