There are several listings that sell everyday on ebay for 99 cents free shipping. How do people make money on these. Every once in a while, would be understandable, but you have sellers doing this constantly. 99 cents is a 12.5% ebay and pay pal fee, minus 30 cents. Then you have to consider the cost of shipping it. What is the issue here?

I thought of that, but when they already have a ton of feedback, what's the point?

Yeah, but they would have to sell a ridiculous amount of items to make enough money to matter.

For an example...

There is a Canadian ebay seller who sells a ton of things for $0.99 w/ Free S/H to Canada. All of their listings start at that price.

Yes, they use discounted postage, but that still isn't that cheap.

All of their money is made off of all the other coins they sell that go for more than that price. They sell a good deal of things that end up going for hundreds of dollars.

Now.. as to why they even bother listing the coins that will undoubtedly sell for 99 cents... I couldn't tell you.

It's a pretty much guaranteed 5-star feedback, and the more of them you get, the more diluted anything adverse would be. Not to mention it attracts new customers. Retail businesses do loss-leaders for a reason, too.

ebay is full of sellers that *think* they are making money.

I can't tell you how many times BiggFredd broke down members ebay sales, almost to the penny, on the old SpareDollar forum. After the breakdown he would subtly point out (well as subtle as BF could be) that they would net more money quitting ebay and flipping burgers at Burger King.

True story.
