I'm finally on my way to collecting all of Benjamin Franklin's original designs for the Continental Currency!

Feb 26, 1777 Four Dollar, from a slightly later issue, approved by the Continental Congress after they fled Philadelphia for Baltimore, but the design still hasn't been changed from "The United Colonies" to "The United States" yet.
"Either Death or an Honorable Life."

Nov 29, 1775 Five Dollar, with the bleeding hand of Great Britain entangled in the American thornbush.
"Bear With Me, or Leave Me Alone."

May 9, 1776 Six Dollar. Coins can be struck weakly, but never overstruck; bills can be printed too heavily. I've seen this beaver faded, or rendered as a heavy black blob, but on this one you can see the look of grim determination on the rodent's face, worthy of his motto:
"By Perseverence."

Thanks! No signers of the Declaration, or delegates to the Continental Congress. I'm working on the faded signatures on the $4; I believe the lower signature is Rinaldo Johnson. I don't think any big boys signed any of the 2/26/77 issue. I almost went with a lower grade $5 because it was signed by William Crispin, whose lonely family graveyard I pass every day on the way to work.
Did get to handle a 1758 Pennsylvania note printed in Ben Franklin's own shop, and signed by George Clymer, who signed the Declaration, attended the Constitutional Convention, and was the first president of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. That one was a bit pricy.
