I have sorted through 100k wheat pennies the last 7 months and have another 100k to go through. I have pulled about 400 woodies, just because I was bored. I thought I might post some of the more interesting, any interest?

Starting off with a 1916P in XF45

It would be interesting to see that cleaned...errr...conserved up.
There are a few vthings that can give it such an appearance.
Interesting, nonetheless.

John, just because it doesn't have eye appeal, to you at least, doesn't mean it is not a woody.

A Woody isn't a woody because of eye appeal. It is a woody because of an improperly alloyed planchent. The graining is there and goes through to both sides. It is interesting that the areas that came into greatest contact with skin oils show the most variation.

The color is a bit off. In hand the dark portion is more a more reddish brown. And the yellow is more of a bright brass color.

It looks like a damaged gunked up coin. I can see scratches/striations going in different directions.

This looks kind of horrible - are the other 400 like this, too?

jmkendall,
First off I do not think it's a woody at all. It looks more like environmental damage. Secondly,if it was a woody (I) would not be interested in buying it or keeping it if I found it roll searching. You and everyone else has the right to your collecting interests
