I obviously haven't understood MS-65, there seem to be too many marks and gouges to me; 1 gouge right of the chin,1 above the 6, 1 in the forehead, 1 in the back hair - can you elucidate please ?

I don't see it. Another straining at gnats variety? Magnify until something looks like something?

Take a point of per mark. That's a "basic" way to get to the grade. Also the over all appearance also. This is a beautiful coin all around. Easy MS65 to me.

Anytime I get a 65 I'm happy. Nice strike, not excellent; but clean fields with few bag marks. The die scratches and gouges are note-able with a 10X loupe. Nice red color for 107 year old copper coin. Here is a 66.
