Heh. Your "mediocre idea" is exactly how I do it, except I hadn't thought of the funnel, which is an elegant way of keeping your fingers out of the acetone.

If only this was the ingrained, unavoidable nature of humanity

BTW also went back and re-read your method. I am not sure how the concept of gently dumping the coin into the funnel did not register in my head the first time (can I blame my meds LOL!)

A lot of the time I actually am soaking two or three halves from roll searching at the same time. So the dumping does not work for me. But your genius idea will be implemented the next time I am only doing one coin

@justcarl
thanks for the experimental info on the snight/copper/acetone. I have not yet done much copper but plan on it in the future so your info will come in handy.

I know this post is super old but it's the first thing that pops up when I googled if Acetone was safe to use on United States cents.... I'm so upset I want to cry but I'm a big girl and will hold it together. I don't know how or why but about 4 and half years of collecting coins in great condition and pretty amazing errors just went down the drain with the used acetone!! My coins are black and some of them are rusted and ALL OF THEM ARE TRASH!! I'm SO SAD WHAT DID I DO WRONG?
