This just goes to show you how much the mint really profits from these coins. These guys are selling them at under $2 a pop and dealers are worried because the look really good. I don't support fakes in anyway and I hate that this is even happening. But the fact that it seems the mint doesn't care is horrible. I wonder at time if the people running the mint even have interest in coins and coin collecting.

I'm VERY! Surprised the RCM does not wish to take a leading roll in stopping these counterfeit coins.
I remember reading an article that someone at the mint released about how they are leaders in innovation with their security features for the coins and bills they produce for our circulating currency.
How can they make a statement like that and then just sit back and ignore all the people that are making near identical products.
It always amazes me when people do not see the snowball effect things like this have until its to late!
(Not to get political but we've all seen the same thing with drugs, downloaded music/movies, knock off purses/clothes etc.)
I remember 30 years ago when everyone thought the drug problem in our Provence was no big deal " It's only pot" was what everyone was saying.
Now the drug problems are so overwhelming I am positive they will NEVER be controlled! And we will never know the true amount it costs us in policing, thefts, rehabilitation centers, courts ,not to mention the cost in human life :-(
Rant over
It just seems to me that it would be a lot easier for the RCM to work with us and the RCMP now!! Instead of years from now when its to late.
Times like this I wish the RCM rep was still on this forum.

I seldom even look at this section on this coin forum as I personally boycott RCM product (I use another term)

Would that term start with the letter 'J'? Ironic that you should come here and seek support for your cause, yet insult those very same people you are seeking support from.

The last 5 days since I read about mike's efforts to curb counterfeits, I've reported a out 20 auctions of fake titanic, robin duck, glass butterfly, and glass bee coins to ebay. I wonder if it has any effect, as ads are still up with bids. The seller of fake glass coins, has a BIN form$125, along with his auction. He states 10% of sales go to school for Austic children. I was almost taken in, as they look real. It was only silver clad in title that gave it away. I talked to a CSR at RCM and he said their legal department knows about all the fakes. He diydnt mention what steps they're taking. He mentioned about gold plated pennies. How can we as a group put pressure on the mint to address this issue? It's no time to in fight over a simple comment Mike made.

A simple comment? Sorry... Calling RCM NCLT junk won't get any sympathy here.

It's funny people seem to forget, the RCM mints all Canadian coins. So how can a collector of Canadian coins truly boycott the mint? It is the source, so it's either all junk or not. We all have our
Own preferences! We need everyone to band together for the one cause, fight the enemy not each other. Personally I collect both circulation and Nclt in equAl amounts. I like each for different reasons. I wouldn't like counterfeits to get the upper hand.

Maybe everyone should send an email to ebay about the same fake coin auction.... Maybe 20 people saying its fake is more likely to get it pulled than just one or two.

We could all use the ebay auction violation link on the home page of this forum as well.
