For the CCF chemists: Do you see a problem storing slabs/coins in a polypropylene (cellophane) bag?

I think it's pretty well established that storing in a polyethylene (sandwich type) bag is fine. In the case of slabs polypropylene works better because it's crystal clear.

These self sealing polypropylene bags are the perfect size for slabs assuming they are safe.

As long as they are made of FDA compliant/ approved Polypropylene they should be ok for coin storage. Someone may know something different though..

Not sure why you would even want to store coins or slabs in a bag. In a bag they have the ability to move and this could cause scratches, dents, dings, etc.

?

These bags are perfectly-sized and ideal for storing slabbed coins to help keep the slabs from getting scratched. If you are not storing your slabbed coins in one of the grading service boxes that fits them securely, these inexpensive bags are a nice added layer of protection.

I don't think I would store raw coins in them, however, as a loose coin in such a bag could be subject to friction scratches as they move about within them.

I have 40 or so coin album pages made from semi stiff archival quality polypropylene, not PVC. That's nearly 1,000
2x2 pockets available for mylar / cardboard flips.

I am transtioning away from PVC album pages.

Polyethylene is the stuff that clip lock plastic food bags are made from. I use those for storing my A4 paper records in. They are edge holed to be kept in 4 ring binders.

Polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene are all inert enough plastic for coin storage. And cellophane and polypropylene are not the same thing, two totally different plastics.
