I was thinking that I would combine two of my favorite hobbies, numismatics and carpentry. I bet a lot of you guys have those coins you think are way too beautiful to have trapped in an airtite or 2x2 flip, because I know I do.

I was thinking I would start making display stands for American Silver Eagles and Canadian Maples that would accommodate them in airtites. Some sort of hardwood like cherry or maple would look really nice alongside the bright white surface of a proof coin, or a a toned one for that matter.

This is roughly what I would try to create, but I would add personal touched to my work. http://www.police-store.com/Challen...2318-0X.aspx

Hope you guys like the idea, I'll keep you updated with my progress.

Here's an idea for displaying three Canadian victory nickels.

A 43 Tombac at left, 44 Chrome at right and a 60th anniversary silver nickel at middle.

Here are the three nickels I chose for this. They were all the best specimens I had anyway haha.

Here is an idea I also had for a complete pre-1967 Canadian mint set. It is half a maple leaf, a slot for each coin. It might look a little crude at the moment, but I'll eventually conceive something enjoyable to look at haha.

Cool idea. Here in the UK a few of us still use traditional coin cabinets. The usual wood used to construct these is mahogany, because that's been found not to release any chemicals that will adversely affect the coins.

If you're using airtites I suspect that won't be an issue. And I'm sure you'll use properly seasoned wood. That will help keep any possible effects to a minimum.

And when you're done .... photos please!
