Thanks for your insight Carl and upstate. I haven't gotten to it yet, but since the quills are coming in I was going to try once more and that's it. I really don't think it is pvc since it wouldve been gone after all the time I've soaked it in the acetone. Probably just a weird toning but we'll see. I am super careful when picking at it, but yes I agree it's not something to mess around with considering scratches can really harm the coin.
