http://www.ebay.com/itm/32121394853....m1497.l2649I took a chance on the above item and won. Just curious what others thoughts are on this coin? Between the 14 day return and buyer protection I'm comfortable if its fake I'm not out much. I do like the look of the coin for my type set. thanks for comments!

I can tell you one thing, it's cleaned.

The good news is it appears genuine. The bad news is it's polished, ex-jewelry, and likely worth 2/3 of what you paid.

The pictures are small but I don't see anything that would rule out a genuine coin. It is likely a problem coin.

When you get it post better images. Even though this is one of the most common years....it is still heavily counterfeited. These CAN look very very good. I have the "books" of fake gold and can compare the images to known fakes.

The obverse has a nice look to me. The sellers pics are small but noticed there it looked cleaned or polished on reverse. How can you tell its ex-jewelry? The blemish on the reverse at around 6 o'clock? I'll wait to receive the actual coin and try and put up better pics then.

Yes, the solder spot at 6:00 and the surfaces indicate ex-jewelry. Plus these were commonly placed in jewelry. By all means post pics when it arrives, it could better than it looks in the seller's pics. P.S. I'm always sceptical on ebay auctions with "L@@K" in the title. This seller also includes a set of dice from a casino? That's not indicative of a reputable coin seller.

Thanks BH1964. Yes, I usually don't bother with auctions with "L@@K" in the title as well but threw what I thought was a lower bid out and for good or worse I won. I'll work on better pics when it arrives. As long as it isn't horrible when it arrives I'll keep it and take it as a learning experience. The fact it was in jewelry for someone just adds to the history of it.

That's a good attitude. I've paid a lot of numismatic tuition over the years and it helped me learn. It's probably a $125 coin. Let us know how it works out for you.
