I noticed these gouges/scrapes while glassing this 93-D Quarter. Are they just die gouges, feeder finger scrapes, or something else. They just look a little different than the feeder finger marks I have seen before. Thanks all!

IDK, whatever they are, they sure look neat. My guess would be die gouge? But I'm not to good at this game LOL!

There appears to be a background image on the reverse of this coin, it is most noted in the flat field area. Note what looks like a capitol image in the lower left field under the eagle. Would have loved to see this coin in UNC!

It maybe a clash of hair. I don't have an overlay with the spagetti haired quarters yet.

I would agree that it is a die gouge, and not a die clash. The area in question does not resemble hair detail from Washington. There are a couple of die gouge examples on the obverse of 1996 quarters in the cherry picker's guide, if I remember correctly.

I didn't think about a clash and will double check it this evening. It just seems like something else would have jumped out first. Wouldn't that part of the hair be one of the deepest recessed parts of the die itself since it is one of the highest parts on the coin. The gouges, or whatever they are, aren't light. They are prominent. Thanks for the ideas though. I will look it over again this evening.

Looks a little different than the hair. They might be die gouges from a polishing?

Thanks for the overlay coop! I checked last night. There are no other marks present. It isn't possible but they look like scaled up, rotated almost 90 degrees to the left, leg feathers. It is amazing how close it would match. The gouges are just bigger than the leg feathers.
