OK the legend may not be there and it has seen better days, but I love this little coin. Apologies for the photos.

Not sure if it is RIC 82 or 100 (suspect 82) but it is the weight that is a puzzle. The ones I have manage to find on line are for a denarius and they weigh from 2.97 to nearly 4g. My little coin only weighs 1.74g. Could it be a quinarius or siliqua? Would the chips on the coin account for the difference in the weight?

Well it may be 'texturally challenged' but that's a fine elephant!

It's an elephant, and it is mine. OK for a tenner.

I would agree it is RIC 82, but there is a big difference in weight. What is the size?

Well the difference in size might explain the weight being off.

I will put it down as a denarius then. Thanks.

It looks genuine, and worn of course. So don't fret as the Denarius by the time of Septimius Severus was "stepping over the Cliff of Debasement" and it would never return to the high quality of the Republic-early Principate era.
