It looks like a 1878-P 7/7 TF Variety VAM 41. It's also called a "7/8 Tailfeather Reverse", as a generic term for all 7 tailfeathers with doubling.

I will guess it is MS63. But you should post better pics for more accurate grading. It looks "dipped" in these pictures.

I believe the "dipped" or "polished" look is my bad phtography. This is one of many from my Grandfathers collection and the pictures don't do it justice. They have been stored for years and not very well at that.
I'm still learning this hobby as I just inherited all of these coins. Trying to sort them all out and discover the treasures...which is all of it! lol I've been to the photography forum quite a bit but still haven't found the perfect(almost perfect) lighting. I will wait for my skills to get better before posting any more pics of these coins. I just get excited!

BTW...what is VAM?

Never mind I did some more reading and now I'm really lost.

Quick, edit your post and remove the "what is VAM?" question...

I fell down that rabbit hole once...

VAM is an acronym for Van Allan Mallis better known as Leroy Van Allen and A. George Mallis. These two men researched the strikes of each Morgan dollar from each mint and date. Studied the differences of each mint and date like micro "O" mint mark, the 7 Tailfeather Varieties, etc.
Of course, they had help. Many other researchers where studying the Morgan and Peace dollar strike characteristics and how certain coins had different features.
Anyway, they wrote a book together in 1971 listing these "VAMS" and pretty much changed the Morgan and Peace collecting hobby forever.

On the obverse, check the fourth star on the right and tell us please if one of the points of the star is broken off and missing. This will help verify that your coin is indeed a VAM 41.
