A gimmick to attract the unwary buyer to the opening bid ... ebay charges the same fee for sale price or postage.

Value the lot as a combined price ... postage plus bid.

Yes, I saw this too. Sellers used to do this to avoid ebay taking their percentage out of a big final value. As nickelsearcher indicates, the rules must have been amended to cover that loophole. Only $7500 for a collection valued at $10,000. Quite the deal.

His top-rated seller status won't last long with a shipping cost like that!

My g-kids have sold 10 lb. copper cent lots for .99 w/a 21. shipping charge.
It wasn't meant as a gimmick, just to see if they could pull it off.

This seller seems like they have been honest in the past. I wonder if the account was hacked.

The fact the they say "This massive collection is worth over $10,000, and I will be adding more to it over the next week or so." may violate ebay rules. I don't think you can start a listing and give it a "value" and say you'll be adding more items to the lot over the duration of the listing.

I reported it based on that statement.

I don't think you can change the items after the listing has started. You would have to contact the bidder and request they let you remove the listing, then pull the listing an relist with the correct items.

you can change the listing quite a bit, but just not after there is a bid placed.

It's been pulled, but not by ebay.

"This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."

Hmmm.

Maybe he realized he had things reversed? The bidding was supposed to start at $7,499 and shipping was free - although it would cost a bit to mail that collection I would think.

Or maybe he's just clueless.
