I have tried looking up the characters but I can't find anything. The coin is the same front and back, with only the characters around the edges, silver in color. Can someone please fulfill my curiosity and tell me what this coin is?

I moved your post to this forum for more exposure.

My first instinct would be Japanese..possibly but, is it a coin?

Yep, it's a Japanese pachinko token.

The script isn't kanji, but katakana. I used to be really into this stuff, but I've forgotten most - at least I can tell apart the three alphabets (kanji is the complicated one).
