Can't see any legend on this, have no idea what it could be, does anyone have any idea? Reverse lookes vaguely like someone on a horse....

Reverse looks more like Philip II of Macedon AE "naked youth on horse". Obv. has a very 'determined' sort of profile. Unlike the Apollo I would expect on a Philip AE ...... Not sure really

I am wondering if this is a fake. You can see some pits on the obv that could have been bubbles, came in the same lot as the Julia Domna.

I think it is fake. The second in a lot of 6 but as I paid £4.84 including postage for each of them I am not too bothered, I am hoping that my Severus Elephant is OK.

Now that I can see it on my iPhone (sometimes less is actually more) I think the pattern on back is a large sprue mark. When I was making my own for jewelry I decided that uniface was soooo much easier. I simply sprued them 'back and center' and could get one good image. Filed a bit and soaked in sulfuric (which can be found in jewelry workshops) would get you much the same result.

Surface looks like it has been dipped in acid.

I can't get pictures, but under the scope there are marks which make me think it has been cast. The scope can make things look weird and things can sometime look better without it. I suspect that with the pitting on the obv it makes me 99% sure it is a fake.

I suggest putting it on concrete and smashing it hard with a sledgehammer so you never have to think about it again.

Augustus, it is a useful reference piece. It has its own label with fake written all over it and a description of what is wrong with it. Will consider the sledge hammer/concrete option if I decide to get rid of it.

I heard back from the original seller, these dodgy coins came from Serbia. Not had a problem with his stuff before but will be vigilant if buying again.
