Picked up $187.00 in cents today from one of my local charity connections. I'm happy as I was out of new stock to search through. I will update if I make any good finds.
Happy hunting all.

Sorry to hear that eddio. Keep your eyes open for charity drive change jars where ever you shop. If you see one...contact the charity and ask if they would be willing to allow you to purchase their cents before they take them to the bank. If they seem unsure...be sure to point out that it will save them time and the hassle of having to take all those heavy cent boxes/bags to the bank. It also does not hurt to offer them a premium for each box/bag that will benefit their charity as well. Start at a $2 premium per box and see how it goes.
You never know...it has worked for me several times. Also...remember to be very polite. You are asking them to do you a favor. Being rude in any way will surely get you nowhere.
Good luck.
As for you Mr. Mike...you keep working on your stash. LOL! I know you have some goodies in there somewhere. :) We need to connect again in the future before the snow flies. Remember...last year we had our first snow around OCT. 9th. Happy hunting.

Quote: Best recoveries: 1985 Pointed 5 1965 Pointed 5 Large Bead See, why can't I find one of these two when I find random Canadian cents in U.S. rolls? These are two of the five I still need. It seems like I find a ton of 1990-2000 dated cents when I find them down here. If you find any extras, send them south, please!

I have only found 3 of the 65 PT5 LB since I have started hunting for varieties which will be 4 years Oct 9 of this year. As for the 8 pointed 5's...they have been fairly scarce as well. If I remember correctly...I have 8-9 stashed away now. I have found 3 times as many 2006 No P No Logo Magnetic cents(2006 NPNL Mag) as I have found 1985 Pointed 5's. It all comes down to the quantity of cents (Canadian) you search. I try to search at least $5K in cents a year. This year has been slow as the cent is not readily available any more here in Canook Land. I'm somewhere around $2500 searched this year. Quote: Copper is always good. That it is. I do not hoard it personally but an acquaintance does and buys it from me. Box #3 is done. Nothing special. Aprox $17 face in copper cents. Oldest coins recovered so far: 1938 Canada and a 1937P US. Foreign: 2 x 2 cent euro, 1 x 1 cent euro & 1 x 1978 New Penny. Pulled about a half a box of US cents to check at a later date. OK...time to start on the first of 4 bags. Will update again. Happy Hunting.

I got my first box of pennies since February. No one would give them to me but one of my favorite banks cracked today and said yes. WHOOOO! She also told me that the local charity drives drop their change off there and that she would make quarter and dime boxes for me too. Cant wait till November now!

Ask your teller if she knows which charities make their deposits there and if you find out...contact the local office for the charity and ask about buying the cents from them prior to them taking them to the bank. I would offer them an extra $2 per box/bag just to slightly sweeten the deal. You never know...they may agree.

Your welcome. Well...finished the $187 in cents. No major finds. I pulled $20 give or take from the lot and I'm now searching them for varieties. Best finds were reported above with a 1985 Pointed 5 and a 1965 Pointed 5 Large Bead. I have maybe 100 or so that I kept for age or eye interest/appeal. Oldest Canadian was a 1936 No Dot Canada and a 1937P US Wheat cent. On another note...a friend of mine surprised me today with a 1967 PL set. I have been wanting one for quite some time and he knew it. Its good to have friends with similar interests. Now I can knock that one of my list. Happy Hunting all.
