This has probably been covered in previous threads, if so, I'm sorry for the dupe question.

I have gold Buffalos from about 5 years ago that shipped to me sealed in clear plastic, they had been cut form a larger sheet. I didn't order directly form the mint and I'm not sure if they sealed them like that or someone else.

Is this common? Is the "factory seal" more desirable than the same coin in a flip or an air-tite?

The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of removing the plastic and storing the pieces in air-tites.

I'd appreciate any opinions on the topic. Thanks,

TS

I have one I bought this year and its cut from a sheet , that's how they come from the mint, as to if its better to keep it in the factory sealed plastic that I don't know about but was wondering as well.I would hope its safe enough to keep it stored that way, surely they wouldn't put it in a plastic that harms/tarnishes gold.

Ok, so the plastic seal is from the mint, thanks for the info Northern.

I have a few Canadian silver maple leafs that are packaged the same way too.

For ease of handling, storing, inventorying, showing, etc., I'm moving the buffalos to air-tite capsules.

They may have some premium if kept in their original mint sealed clippings for people who might want to submit them to a TPG. I ordered one of the Chinese new year celebration buffalos back when they first came out, it was simply one of those sheet clippings put into a fancy box lol
