I have two bars from Johnson Matthey... #R17409 and #R17410 since they are consecutive numbers would they bring more if sold for cash or auction?

1. A local dealer probably wouldn't care either way and pay you according to spot.

2. ebay and or other online forums will get you a higher return due to the fact there are bullion collectors of Johnson Matthey & Engelhard and appreciate the serial numbers being consecutive.

Good luck.

I'm a big Johnson Matthey collector myself and I can tell you I would definitely pay more for consecutive serial numbers if that was what I was looking for. When I'm looking online for collective JM bars I usually look for low and unusual serial numbers and consecutive serial numbers if there is more than one bar in the auction.

I would definitely not go to a local dealer. They would pay you usually under spot. From the serial numbers you have stated, they are from the last batch of Johnson Matthey bars minted in the late 1980s that had the "R" prefix. I bet they would go anywhere from $65 to $85 on ebay for both bars together depending on how bad the bidders want them.

Engelhard 10oz bars for $3 over spot is a fair deal, $2.50 over spot is a good deal and getting them for spot is an unusually good deal. I'd grab all I could get for spot.

.999 for spot is always a good buy. The fineness brings a premium alone.
