Perth Mint makes nice coins & maybe this photo going around is a poor example of the quality of these coins. I really like the packaging. How much does APMEX charge for shipping to Canada, does anyone know?

Quote:
sorry for all the confusion but this post is the true picture of origin..my first guess was the right one! Perth Mint

It s certainly confused because I do not believe the above quote is correct.

The NZ mint is a mint but a privately owned one. they describe themselves as the minters to the pacific...they are not just dealers!! Note: The official issue for NZ coin (NCLT) Is new Zealand Post. I thought the Doctor Who coins were produced by the NZ mint not Perth:

http://www.nzmint.com/coins/shop-on...-silver-coin

Checking the Perth Mint web site I find that the Gold Dr Who coin was produced by the Perth Mint but: the Perth Mint says this: Proof Quality 99.9% Pure Gold

Quote:
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint on behalf of New Zealand Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality.
. The silver coins as far as I know were made by the NZ mint. All that said I wonder about their long term survival. The fact the Perth Mint is producing the gold coin is interesting.

Edit. I did some more digging: all the Dr Who coins seemed to have been produced by the Perth Mint. However the NZ mint makes no mention of this on their website.....As a Kiwi I am a little concerned as the NZ mint ( never bought from them and never will!) may be not fully disclosing where they are producing their coins. I was sure( now doubting it) that the NZ mint produced the gold kiwis

Buy the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary â€" 2013 1oz Silver Proof Coin at The Perth Mint, featuring:

Iconic TARDIS Reverse Design
Unique and Innovative TARDIS Display Case With Sound
Limited Mintage â€" 10,000
Official Licensed Product
Proof Quality 99.9% Pure Silver
Overwhelming demand for this coin has resulted in a delay in fulfilling orders. Orders will be fulfilled in order of receipt commencing 1 July and we anticipate to have all orders fulfilled by early August. Credit cards will be charged immediately prior to despatch.

Well..... the Perth Mint site showed the silver Dr Who coin last nite with the above note which led me to believe that they had produced it...The New Zealand Mint offers both gold and silver Dr Who but takes official responsibility for the gold only......As to the Spiderman coin ...it doesn't appear on either site and only on APMEX...even the ebay australian dealer I bought it from stopped listing it and you cant find this coin anymore on ebay....

I contacted the New zealand Mint( Vuia there face book page in reply to my question they wrote:

Quote:

New Zealand Mint Hi, You will be pleased to know that we do have our own in house minting facilities where we strike our own coins. However with some coin programs, such as Doctor Who, we engage the services of another mint to strike our designs on our behalf.

That clears up the mystery of where the Dr Who coins were minted...As far as the Spider man coin goes The australian ebay seller I bought from was convinced that the NZ Mint produced them........and so far on ebay I'm the first and only buyer of this coin which is a presale waiting shipment to the Seller from the mint and as of today there are 2 for sale by separate sellers waiting for coins on a pre sale basis for 108.00 approx.....I bought from Blu Chip but here is the url from the Perth Mint ebay seller

The RCM went out on a limb to do the Superman series even tho it was designed by Joe Who .....and few knew he was a Canuck but in general the RCM stays in the safe zone when it comes to NCLT wheras the smaller mints can take more chances..im surprised the US Mint doesn't do more adventurous NCLT because clearly there is a lot of interest in it these days..they could do Batman and Robin next!

I hope these are Perth Mint made. As far as NCLT's from the US, forget about-Congress has to approve any new coins & they can't even pass a spending bill.

US does produce tons of special edition stuff every year but they suck and look ugly. This year's girl scout commemorative looks bad, the left girl appears to have Down's syndrome and frosting the African American girl scout in silver is just wrong on so many levels.

Actually, I'd prefer if they didn't. Disney should just make their own silver coins and sell them through their website. OPM is just one of many smelters that will make custom rounds.

IMHO the best NCLT coin that isn't a retread of an old design (St. Gaudens) is the Dolly Madison commemorative silver dollar. I believe it was designed by Tiffanys.

I think the name of the island in question is spelled "Niue."

Island is indeed spelt NIUE ..my apologies..if I could edit the first post I would...

the obverse designs of the Spider man and Dr Who are different portraits of the Queen but both are identified as NIUE coins I'm still inclined to believe that the Perth Mint produced both of them on behalf of the NZ Mint..we know this to be true of the Dr Who coin for sure....but I've not seen any convincing evidence that Spidey coin is an NZ Mint coin...Apmex doesn't mention it.... only the ebay seller says its so.....I notice that ebay sales have picked up over the last few days and it is still currently for sale by Perth Mint and Blu Chip ebay sellers on presale only.....

I don't use ebay anymore but had no idea Perth Mint uses also. Looks like Perth Mint will ship in a few weeks according ebay listing. I wish I knew if they truly minted this coin for Niue.

perth-mint-coins...an ebay seller says that spiderman coin is produced by NZ MINT...also I note that ebay sellers are listing more now and one in particular has lots of pics which make the coin look a lot better and they are a Canada seller asking 165 but so far it would seem this is very early in the game and coins are not available except on pre sale

Thanks for info Cassidy77. Makes me feel better that better pics are coming out now. APMEX & Downies pics both looked like they came from same source. The coin is still available at both sites but wonder how long with 5,000 mintage total.
