Quote: The coin is still available at both sites but wonder how long with 5,000 mintage total. For a coin produced in the 17th and 18th century 5000 is a very low number. For modern NCLT of the likes of spider-man and other coins 5000 is a massively high number. I really hope you are collecting them because you like them.....if you are collecting them expecting to make a profit: you are probably going to be very disappointed. If you are investing you need to look at "real" coins.

This is a hobby for me & I buy what I like, usually will get 3 of each with plans to flip 2 to hopefully lower my bottom line cost of the one that I keep. Spiderman is pretty big in the US & with Christmas approaching they may do ok flipping but you never know for sure. I collect a variety of coins & usually don't go for color coins but I have enjoyed the cartoons for years. Lower bottom line cost for the coins I keep, allows me to broaden my collection.

The above mentioned I call my "3 to 1 strategy"! Small scale flipping but does allow me to collect more. You do what you can with what you have. I think I have done OK overall with this strategy.

@ austrokiwi........5000 is low mintage for this coin..most of the spiderman mintage has already been purchased by APMEX who will market it out of the USA where it will probably sell out immediately. If you compare it with the recent superman Canada release which practically sold out 7 coins with a total of around 60,000 mintage in one month its a no brainer.....The spiderman coin set looks great on paper..its a cross collector market with the huge comic book fan base in play..So I think logically it will be a good investment at this point....Dr Who coins are bit more unpredictable because the fan base isn't as great and is mostly a cult status in the UK but Spiderman is a North american mainstream classic and I'm betting the 5000 coins will sell out in one month easy..and climb in price rapidly...personally I'm not into spiderman to resell but I like coinshoooked 3 to 1 plan.....

I agree Cassidy77! Comparing mintages & popularity is a very good point. Tempted to order more but have to 1st see & by then it will probably be too late! If I think something will be popular, I will go higher than 3 to 1 strategy. Dr Who is just cult in US & not mainstream. Spiderman overpowering more popular with comic books, cartoons & movies. Who can't like a guy like Stan Lee!

Downies has now raised their price but reduced shipping depending on how much you spend. Now $119.00 Australian Dollars. It looks like APMEX may have best deal now (if they have not raised their prices).

Just caved & doubled my 3 to 1 strategy, I will have 6 on order total- 3 from Downies & 3 from APMEX. Final price including to US from APMEX was $318.92 or breaking down to each one in this order would be $106.31 each. Get on board or miss the train is how I feel about this Spidey offering!

I just got my ship notice from APMEX, that was fast! Downies have not shipped my order yet. Really looking forward to seeing & may end up being my buy of the year-could also be my bust of the year but I don't think this will be a bust at all. Only time will tell.

I hope your guess is good......I realize you really like these coins....but I have a less than complimentary opinion about them. I once purchased an AMC 12 oz superman Round.....worst buy ever.....after 30 years Even with the current silver prices it is still making a loss ( when one calculates the Risk free ROR) Its mintage: 350

FYI, I just received my 3 coin order from APMEX & am very pleased. If I sent in to a grading company, I feel they would grade PF 69 or 70. The whole item is very well done & APMEX was extremely quick on delivery. I don't have a good camera to share pictures but I am very happy that I pulled trigger & ordered. I would recommend to any Spiderman fan.

The pictures of the coin itself from both Downies & APMEX are very deceiving. The coins are top notch & I would say are comparable to the Feng Shui Cranes coin. Why Downies & APMEX keep showing a bad quality coin to it's customers is beyond me!

@coinhooked ....great news captain hook!...its a relief that the spiderman coin is nicely finished ..You must be one of the first collectors to obtain one so congrats!......I just read that ebay auctioned the first 10 Who coins and the no. 1 coa sold for 2500 NZ dollars on ebay..i wonder how much the no 1 spidey coin will fetch or the no 1 Superman for that matter?....anyways they should be showing up on the bay right away..i think those coa numbers matter..if you get under 100 you are lucky for sure......

Thanks Cassidy77! I was wondering about the COA #'s and wasn't sure as this side of collecting is kinda new to me. APMEX really rocks on delivery! I will have to check my COA's due to mainly being concerned about the quality. I'll let you know later...

@Cassidy77-That should be my new online name (Captain Hook), I was on the USS America for 3 years & will never forget refueling a Canadian warship (wish I could remember it's name) & was so cool how some of the Canadian Sailors dressed in hula skirts & played Carribean songs while we refueled them.
