First was a Bosnia and Herzegovina 1KM coin dated 2002. It is plated steel and magnetic, with a reeded/smooth edge. It is about halfway between a US nickel and quarter in diameter and was mistaken for a quarter when received from the local grocery store when I asked for the junk coins they wanted to get rid of. (I also got some common Canadian cents and nickles and a few corroded US coins.)

Second was a replica Buffalo nickel, that is sized slightly smaller than and mistaken for a dime, with a smooth edge and "COPY" on the face. It is slightly magnetic, I assume it is some sort of nickle or steel allow. This was found in the honor box at work.

The honor box and grocery store are becoming good sources for oddball things like this. Last month I got some Asian coins and in the past a bunch of other European and older US coins.

Nice finds!

I moved this to the Main Forum since it seems more appropriate.

Nice Konvertible Markka! Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the harder countries in the "one from each country" world coin set. 1 KM is also one of the few coins I have lost outright - I watched it slip between the seat and seat-back in my dad's Mercedes at 100km/h and heard it hit the road with a "plink"...
