First of all, I want to thank whomever wrote that my enthusiasm for coins and the CCF would carry me through any
fear. It did!
As I sat in the rear of the room watching the kids learn and have fun I thought of this. So when it was time for me to address the kids and parents and grandparents my opening
was:
"How many of you kids use the Internet to find answers to your questions about coins?"
Almost every kid raised his or her hand. Then I asked:
"And how many of get answers?"
Well, half of the hands went down and the rest of the hands made gestures to suggest that good results were rare.
So I said:
"I have a solution for you!" I ad libbed from that point on about the willingness of our members to answer kid's questions enthusiastically. To the adults I covered the safety angle. The adults expressed to me later their concern about the kid's safety and I did my best to assure them that that is our 'job number one!'
A message for John from New London, CT:
I looked for jcworld to send you a message. I did not find you. Please message me. I was operating this entire weekend on very little sleep.
To the members, I asked the assembly if if any of them had heard of the Coin Community Family and John raised his hand. We had a nice chat later.
As I had many packets left over I shared them with four clubs with active YN programs: The New England Numismatic Association for distribution next February, The Worcester, MA and Nashua, NH clubs and an "I do not remember" club also in MA. [Thus covering the local areas.] This, I hope, makes good on my promise to saturate New England with awareness of our existence.
And now, I lay down a challenge:
Would any of you step to the plate and hit a home run in YOUR region? It really is not that hard if you try.
Lastly my thanks to all who gave me encouragement in this
effort. I feel quite good about it.

Rest in Peace

I agree The tough thing about promoting to kids, is that in most cases, it will be a long time before the rewards seem to materialize. Kids have kid things to do, but as they get older and settle into things/areas, that seed may sprout into a numismatist.

chequer,
What do you consider 'rewards?'
For me it is adult and child asking coin questions together.
At the end of my 'talk' I said:
"Long after toys are forgotten you child or grandchild will remember the time you spent together." More than a few of you understand exactly what my goal is.

I just turned 15 and I'm (sadly) a born hobby waffler. I was into coins when I was about 8, I still have a decent pile of rotational puzzles (including the elusive Impossiball and Alexander's Star), I spent about two years solid playing Minecraft, I was really into pixel-art, and now I'm back into coins! But this time, I'm making tons of good purchases, and I can buy more regularly, so hopefully I'll stay on it - even if I only got half of catalog value and plain melt value for my best world coins on ebay, I'm pretty sure I'll have doubled my money. Junk bins pay

You better believe, nalaberong, that junk bins pay!
As a dealer cannot know about EVERY coin the knowledgeable YN can often
score a nice, unusual coin or two.
I saw a family in the hotel, the dad holding a Whitman folder. I struck up a conversation. The YN had chosen a Standing Liberty quarter folder which is comparable to a Canadian large cent in difficulty. I told the family that by searching through a junk bin it is possible to find the key date 1916. It has markers which distinguish it from the common 1917. Even if the date is entirely gone.
"The explanation with pictures is available on the CCF site." I told mom.
I celebrate your finds!
