Although according to Kevin Flynn they are not that common, I've seen a bunch of die clashes in recent ebay auctions. I mentioned this to a dealer at PNNA today and he said "wait, I have one you need to look at - not a great coin, but neat".

On a really good day, it might grade out at a VF20... but look at the clash!3CS-Die-Clash

how could I *not* go for it.

Not Common? Not from my experience. They aren't as common as on the 3CN but they are common.

on the clashing. I have several examples, thought not quite as prominent as yours. Without seeing the reverse, I would grade this no higher than VG.

VG? I think it s a lot better than that - you have most of the separation between the two lines of the star and the two lines of the shield (the highest point). The reverse shows wear on the diamond and the orbs. Yes, the rim & lettering is weak, but that's normal, type 2s are notorious for poor strike.

Most business strikes are found with a moderate strike. Some weakness is seen in the sheld, outline of the star and letter of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the obverse...
[Flynn & Zack], but I do have to ask what OTHER detail IS on the obverse

These are Type1s from Photograde:

But, whatever it grades out as I bought it for the clash and paid something more than greysheet and something less than full retail...

Next time I will ask to see the reverse first.

Now that I see the reverse, I believe the obverse is indeed a weak strike. Not saying I agree 100% with VF but I can see it going higher than VG.

It is a very nice coin.

I never knew the frequency of 3c clashes, until I bought a lot of 4 low-graders off the bay.
2 of them had 'em & they weren't advertised as such. Good eye!

Sorry, I did NOT mean to sucker you. It was late, I had driven 210 miles, spent 6 hours walking the show and was just too wired not to show it off, but too tired to do it right!

The next trick will be to get a photo of both my 58s at exactly the same scale so I can try the overlay trick...
