My first thought is that the damage on the rim in PMD. looking at it closely, it has denticles on it! Wondering if it is a planchet error now. Asking your opinion.

My snap guess - looking at the image on my small smartphone screen - is that it's the result of a minor clip. Not a large-enough clip for detail to go missing, but enough so the denticles were lower in that area and therefore saved from as much wear as the full-height adjacent ones. I'd expect the reverse to show something as well.
