I havent got pictures yet but I was wondering if anyone had heard of it. The edge is poorly done but clearly authentic but reads STANDING ON THL SHOULDERS OF GIANTS (with no sign of any bars on the would be E).

Is this L substituting in for an E known?

Much more likely to be a filled die.

I havent seen that particular error but the coin I came across had a weak strike on the words "shoulders of giants" , in addition the R looked more like a P , the G looked like a C , and the O on shoulders looked like a you ...

speaking of the 2012 2 pound coins, they are a bit hard to find , I have only come across only one so far ..

Same here mate, I only found my first 2012 £2 coin yesterday. Couldn't find anything out of the ordinary with it though.

I was thinking...it cant be a filled die, the letters are incuse and so the die has raised lettering. Perhaps a damaged die, but I can see no evidence of the other bars of the E. Curious. Heres a picture, note the weak strike on STANDING and the near nonexistant bar on the H:

Good point about the incuse lettering. AFAIK the edge lettering is applied before the two metals are united. What I don't know is how the lettering is applied. But I think that there is a man who does know. andyg, are you out there?
