I have been posting at PCGS and NGC forums for a while. I was just recently made aware of this forum and thought I would check it out. I go by the same name at all 3 sites if you want to say hi there sometime. I must say it is a little overwhelming with so many links, categories and sub categories, but I am sure I will figure it out. I am currently collecting wheat cents from 1909-1920 in gem brown or better, or uniquely toned. Here are a few examples. A video of the 1917 if it works I also have a Monster toned '38 walker being auctioned I would like to post if someone can direct me to the proper place to do so. Thanks Jim http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/j...?sort=3&o=21

Nice coins man, I remember the '17 from the PCGS forums. I agree that the forum setup here is a bit discombobulated, but hey, whatever floats their boat. I mostly stick to the classic coins and classic coin grading forums.
Welcome.

Thanks for the welcome. I have read several of your posts before. Not sure if I responded to many as I tend to just read a lot.
Thanks for the compliment on the coins. I have appreciated several of the very nice coins I have seen you post ats.
I hope that '17 does well. Bob should have received it today or tomorrow. I cant wait to hear his in hand opinion.

to CCF! You'll figure out where everything is quickly, if not ask and I'm sure that someone will point you in the right direction. Nice coins!

Holy..... Welcome to Coin Community, Jim. I have a personal weakness about Gem Brown Lincolns, and these three are like being skritched under that place beneath your shoulder blades which you can't reach yourself. All three are wonderful coins. I don't even care about the bright spot beneath the A on the 1912; I know why that happens. But the 1917...that one's special. Yeah, I know they re-upped the master dies in 1916, so you can expect a decent strike, but golly, man. That one has to be Condition Census for the color and it's a darn shame that PCGS doesn't do Browns as a standalone in their Registry. I see 3 marks keeping this one from 69. It's amazing. Under our rules, I cannot allow you to link your Walker yet. We hold this forum to a higher standard of behavior than any other on the Internet, because by design we cater to the beginning collector and to the YN. Part of that necessary control is not allowing commerce or external links from any member however well-reputed they might be in the hobby, until they've met our prerequisites for time and postcount, and even then we might make that judgment subjectively. I sincerely hope that you find this place a worthy stop on your travels, but be aware that we are tightly focused on creating the next generation of numismatists and that goal wholly governs our behavior. We're not messing around with this; we take tables at the major East Coast coin shows (we were in Chicago, as well) and give away coins (donated by the membership) by the thousands to YN's. Check our "Coin Show" subforums for details. This is, needless to say, not the CU Forum. I'm pleased to see that you've chosen to check this place out, and sincerely hope that you'll find our Family (this term is not used carelessly) appropriate to your inclinations. This is a good opportunity for me to - yet again (it was years ago, but I can't let it go) - revisit my personal grudge against PCGS in the guise of welcome; they called this coin 65RB: Are you kidding me? I'm sorry, man. I'm only human. Welcome to the Coin Community Family.

It is funny you post that 1910 and its ridiculous grade.
My 1917 is currently on its way to PCGS and will be my 1st submission to them. Copper like your 1910 is why I have not done so previously. I feel they are out of touch with copper collectors with both condition and MA toning. If I am not pleased then off to NGC she goes and hopefully returns with a star.
It was actually a member at cu that led me to this site.
Any how I will continue to browse and learn the features of the site.
Thanks for the welcomes
Jim

The bright spot is an impurity in the alloy; I don't claim to know the specific metallurgy behind it but my guess is it's a small-scale concentration of the tin/zinc which resists the normal darkening far longer than the usual process. There's still some concentration of the predominant copper - otherwise the color would not be there - but it sure isn't the normal 90%.
I shoot all my own images. I can't claim to be the reason why it's happened, but would offer the considered opinion that in addition to Coin Community's efforts on behalf of new collectors, there is also no better place to learn the art of coin photography than here. We have a dedicated subforum on the topic of photography, and - to be frank - we're stretching the state of the art there. I'll say no more by way of bragging, but merely ask you to have a look at our Photography Forum and form your own conclusions.

It was postulated that the '17 may bag at PCGS over on their forums for a variety of reasons. It is extremely nice, though. I don't think they'll call it a 7, but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

to CCF! Shouldn't this go under the introduce yourself thread?

Well, yes, he introduced himself here, but he did so with coins. That 1917 is one of the finest Lincolns I've ever seen, and it'd be the absolute highlight of my collection if I owned it. I don't know if it goes 67 or not - that's uncharted territory for Brown Lincolns of most vintages - but it's a lock for 66 and a Star coin from NGC. If PCGS bags it, it's from sheer paranoia on their part. Which would be in character for them.
