going through my change for bus fare today, I was surprised and delighted to find this.please tell me, this is a real blank planchet,if so what kind of value does it command?

The larger the planchet, the better the price. A nice Type 2 (rimmed) 25-cent planchet like that is worth about $20 to the right collector. 1c, 5c and 10c planchets are a lot cheaper, while loon and nickel dollar planchets easily fetch $80 or more....

Not bad, for face value...

If you want other blanks, some are super easy and cheap to find -while others are very elusive. If you assemble a set, a neat way to display them is inside a plastic Capital Holder.

If you do intend to collect blank planchets, an accurate digital scale and digital callipers are a must. There are also the Type 1 planchets (no rims - they look like slugs), which are harder to find (and cost more).

CCF member t_y has a most impressive Canadian planchet collection - but his photography capability is most unimpressive - so you'll likely never see them, unless he brings them to a coin show...
