Hey Guys!

This is the first Foreign note I ever acquired. I found it lying in the mud in a playground when I was 7. I never thought to ask it's denomination and info.

The note is dated "1961", but these were issued right up to 1991 with that date. I don't think there's any way of narrowing down the date, unless someone in Russia has made a study of the serial numbers.

These notes circulated in Russia right up until the re-denomination of the currency in 1997. The 50 and 100 Ruble notes from the 1961 series had been demonetized back in the 1980's because of alleged hoarding(This was a perceived problem by the communists) So until 1991 when the new notes came out there were no large denomination notes around, and by then the ruble had slipped dramatically in value, reflecting it's actual market rate and not a government fixed rate. I remember the excitement of having the new 100 Ruble notes in 1991, people would literally stare at them as though you had a $10000 bill, to most it was a pile of money, equivalent to about 1/4 to 1/3rd of a month's income. Sadly in dollar value it was only about $3.00.
