Hello guys,

I bought a denarius of Brutus, which I think looks genuine but I need your look at this coin as well.. especially at the vase, is the handle correct? Never seen such handle with dots.

If not, I can still cancel the deal

Weight is 3,75 grams

Sorry Dutch but I don't like this coin - I'll stick my neck out and go as far as to say I'm convinced its a fake.

A pretty good fake but a fake all the same.

Wait for more opinions before you do anything, others know more than I do but I think this might be a deal your better off getting out of.

A quick review of prior CNG sales showed no examples with the dotted handle ewer-- except for this type, which is a different obverse.

Perhaps a fantasy reproduction?

An excellent example of why I walked away from high grade silver coins 25 years ago. I find it much too difficult to judge these 'questionable' coins.
What does seem to stand out though is the letter N and the 4 V's. They look very neatly executed.
Probably too neatly done. Where most of the other letters have a child on a blackboard type of style these two letters are almost perfect.
Worst of all when we find a coin like this we all really want it to be real because ........
WE WANT ONE !

Coins like this scare the heck out of me.

I fully agree, I'd love one but would only buy from a respected and long standing bricks and mortar seller - unfortunately that 'warm-feeling' carries a very high price tag and is more than I'm happy to spend.

The lettering is suspect, the dotted handle didn't even occur to me as a problem but to me the coin looks sterile, style wise. The wear between 6 and 11 o'clock in the first picture also looks quite recent to me.

Thank you all..cancelled the deal. Perhaps I should stay away from high grades as well although I was VERY lucky with the genuine Augustus denarius

Here is the final nail in the coffin (also ammunition to use against the seller if you need it to back up you leaving the deal)

FAC fake reports - I think its a die match, yours is a deliberately defaced 'silver' version of this coin.

Your original coin is 100% fake - we have the die match now to prove it beyond question.

At a glance your second coin looks fine to me but I must stress that its only at a glance. I don't intend to spend a couple of hours researching and checking a coin that nobody is actively trying to buy.
