This is a 1943 British Half Penny. I am just curious to know if anyone knows what causes this effect. If you look at all the letters in the legend, you will see an unusual pattern surrounding the letters. The best way I can describe it, is if the fields of the coin were mud, and you dropped the letters into it you would get that little wave around the letter where it displaced the mud. Here is my theory. The die struck the planchet with excess force causing the metal to flow around the letters. Any other guesses.

Not sure what causes that, but it is very cool. Great find.

Just a guess, but it looks like when the coin was struck there was too much pressure causing the metal to expand outward.

Wow thats really cool looking! I've never seen an error like that before. Could it be a different minting style?
