That looks a bit more extensive than just a promotion. Are they in some kind of partnership with one of those T.V shows? Mean while back on the Island, the Long Island Coin Club issued this in 1985: http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...hp?pos=-6519It's a somewhat crude rendition of the Long Island Tercentenary Commen, counter-struck on the obverses of a JFK and Franklin half.

Shatsi I don't think that it's a real coin club. They have a product line and if you scroll down it says "as seen on T.V." I don't know what this is about but I suspect it's some kind of partnership between the Daily News and one of those coin T.V shows. There was the Brooklyn Coin Club, The Bronx Coin Club, The Buffalo Coin Club, The Long Island Coin Club and the New York Numismatic Society. As well as the American Numismatic Society. Probably some upstate as well but I don't know any names. I'm not sure about the Bronx Coin Club but I think the rest are still around in some form or another. The Buffalo Coin Club is now the Buffalo Numismatic Association. As of Oct. 2003 they were still around. Laxmaster, no I'm not on Long Island anymore. We moved to Florida when I was 13. I haven't been back since 1980. Guess the potato farms out in Catchogue are gone now huh?

So the Daily News got a hold of a bunch of quarters, then layered them in a very thin layer of gold. They applied a sticker to one side and charged $4.99 each. I guess everyone wants to get into the business of ripping people off.

The ANA has a directory of their membership clubs: http://www.money.org/ana_custom/clu...b_search.cfmThe only thing I found for NYC was the New York Numismatic Club at the same address as ANS. But I did find the Long Island Coin Club: Long Island Coin Club Meeting Location Christ Church (Lutheran) New Hyde Park , NY

I've always wanted to join a coin club but due to the area I live, it is just not the wise thing to do. As to N.Y. I would suspect it is similar there. Being in a club with a bunch of people you don't know, never heard of and may not see again is just not a good idea around here. If you have to join any club and give your address to people you don't know and they now know you have coins is just asking for problems. This is a Chicago area inbreeding type of thing. Way, way to many home invasions. At coin shows many people are carefull of anyone leaving at the same time, dealers usually circle the area a few times checking for followers.

I don't know. Maybe because I'm from the Midwest, but I keep imagining one of those New York meetings going like this.
"Wow, you have the new Adams dollars already? Where did you get them." "Fell off'a truck."
"Wow, aren't those the coins you were trying to buy from Bob last week?" "Yeah, he don't need'em anymore." "Hold on, aren't those his shoes?" "He don't need those anymore either."
