I was just wondering If anyone has any good ways to spot cleaned coins on ebay.

If it is a TPG certified coin it will have "details" (code 92 for PCGS) on the slab insert.

Other than that, it can be a daunting task, this is one of the reasons I shy away from raw coins.

Photoshopping, colored lighting or other imaging manipulation can hide or disguise the "color" of a coin. A cleaned coin will appear "lifeless" and/or washed out.

If in doubt...pass (or punt, depending on field position).

I'm sure a number of people have been skunked here at CCF.
I was skunked at a major coin show,(Chicago this summer). I knew from other members VT and NoHope The seller said he would pay me back but I kept the coin.
Was I skunked? Ya but, this was a learning lesson for me. I need to know more about grading raw coins details or clean!

No, there is no good way to spot cleaned coins on ebay. It's that simple. The unfortunate truth is that unless your personal skill level is up to it, and the images accompanying the auction are accurate enough, you'll never know.
