I noticed this last night and again this am. As a relatively new seller I use the "view item" in feedback sections to check a buyer or a seller. it goes a long way in helping me decide if who I am dealing with has a good track record. it also helps in the case of seeing if negative feedback was warranted.

well no more, you can still do an advanced search but who knows if that will change also.

I just thought I would throw it out there so others know it is not a typical glitch in ebay's system. They changed it with out any notifications.

I guess the Flawed feedback system will be all you can see.

ebay Eliminates Purchase Details from Feedback System

By Ina Steiner

ebay is making its feedback system less transparent by removing purchase details from the feedback page in a move that has already shocked some users who noticed the change start to roll out to the site right before their eyes on Wednesday.

Because ebay did not announce the change, many wondered if it was a glitch or a test. But ebay spokesperson Ryan Moore confirmed it was a deliberate policy change.

"Based on customer feedback from both buyers and sellers, we have made the decision to remove the view item link and item ID information on Buyer and Seller Feedback profiles pages," Moore told EcommerceBytes. The move is one of the most controversial changes to feedback since ebay introduced anonymous Detailed Seller Ratings and stopped allowing sellers to give buyers neutral or negative feedback ratings.

Buyers are particularly concerned about the lack of transparency on feedback pages of sellers from whom they are considering purchasing. They will no longer be able to see the types of items sellers have sold in the past, and some say they will be hampered in attempting to gauge the honesty of sellers receiving complaints from past buyers.

"I imagine that such a move would make it difficult for diligent buyers to get a better picture of what the seller is really like," wrote an EcommerceBytes reader. "Did the seller accumulate their feedback by selling individual paper-clips? (And then, once a ''respectable'' amount of feedback has been earned, the seller turns out to be some sort of scammer.)"

Or, she asked, "Did the seller earn a negative because the mystery-item is something that typically attracts persnickety buyers? (Wouldn't it be nice to know if the item description really WAS incorrect? Wouldn't it be nice to know if the seller's photos DID show the flaw after all?)"

Some sellers were concerned that they would not be able to see buyers' history. "Well, you can't see any evidence of a SNAD scam if you can't see the item or the description that contradict the buyers statements," wrote one seller. Another seller was happy that shoppers would not be able to see what he had sold items for in the past, explaining he routinely adjusted prices and haggled with buyers.

Moore explained that buyers and sellers would continue to see the link and item number for transactions they are involved in as long as they are logged in.

An interesting twist to the feedback system. Does this mean this will be like private auctions where nobody can see what you purchased?

Oops I guess not. You can't click view item because its not there next to the feedback but you can still see the item description.

That is totally brain-dead, and a strong move in favor of scammers and trolls.

Exactly SsuperDdave! At first I thought it was a glitch, after some searching I found the topic and it is not going over too well.

@TheForce, I think the item descriptions are going to vanish also, the next few days will tell.

ebay has been heading the wong direction for several years and this is another example. In all fairness it's not just ebay, it's most corporations these days.

I actually see it as the opposite with the intent being more as a move to add a bit of privacy to the buying for people that make expensive purchases. Of course a side effect of that will be that it does make it harder to see if any scam listings got sold which is an unfortunate side effect. However Id bet that most people that do that will also have active listings for fakes which will give them away.

Even though you cant click the link, for sellers the item title does still appear so you can tell the type of things they sell. Its just for buyers that the information disappears entirely when I tested it out.

However, I do think they should leave an exception for negative or neutral feedback so you can decide for yourself if it was warranted. Not being able to see it does kind of stick it to the seller leaving them a very small space to defend their listing.

Your analisys is right on the money SsuperDdave! By restricting information ebay is supporting shady transactions and continuing to distance itself from any liability.

Interestingly when I view my feedback on another web browser that I am NOT signed into ebay with, it shows nothing, no "view item" link nor an item description.

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...=AllFeedback

Now when I am signed into ebay, I can see "view item" link for the transactions I was in, but for the item description it just shows the item number now.

ebay uses load-balancing and multiple servers.... when updates are first rolled out they may not be on all servers at once so it may appear to be "in and out" depending on what server you land on.

That's daft. I just went to a seller at randon, copied their listing title and did a search under completed listings an ... up it comes. So you CAN view items bought or sold (there goes the privacy argument!) it's just it takes more work to do so ... so why bother?

ebay these days just seems less and less sure whether it's a site for buyers or sellers.

On the one hand they make it a worse forum for buyers by making it difficult to spot shill bidding and seeing previous listings and on the other they fall over themselves to refund items so sellers more often fall prey to the 'not as described' or similar scams where sellers get money back but then are in no hurry to return an item.

Yes and no, its more dumb luck now if you find more than one purchase from the same buyer. Instead of being able to check the buyer and seeing a long history of expensive purchases now you just see the one which does add more privacy but doesn't keep their history completely hidden.

Well, on the bright side, this might finally be the misstep which allows a viable competitor to ebay to surface. It's causing a *bunch* of people I've talked to, to walk away from ebay for good.

It would actually take extra effort for a buyer to leave enough information associated with themself on ebay to create any danger. Anyone that dumb deserves to get doxed. There is simply no justifiable reason for this move.

ebay continues to reduce the positive effects of any community looking out for others. I find this bothersome because ir makes it harder to confirm a particular buyer has bought a forged coin--it's easier to warn somebody with pictures to discuss. In an 'information society' less information = less power, a backwards step.
