Eleven Iconic Doctor Reverse Designs
The reverse of each coin features a high quality colour reproduction of the Doctor in his various regenerations. Behind him is a likeness of his nemesis, sculpted on a vivid background surrounded by a border inspired by technology and time travel.
First Doctor
The first ever Doctor was played by William Hartnell from 1963 until 1966. Sometimes doting, sometimes difficult, the First Doctor was both a loving father-figure and a fierce opponent. The reverse design also features the Doctor's arch enemies, the evil Daleks, on the background.
Second Doctor
The Second Doctor was played by Patrick Troughton from 1966 until 1969. His playful, whimsical air disguised dark undercurrents and a sharp mind. The emotionless Cybermen are also represented alongside the Doctor on this design.
Third Doctor
In 1970 the Third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee, was forced to begin his exile on Earth with a new face. The Third Doctor was confident, bold and brash, but with a soft paternal side reserved for those he cared about. The background of this coin's reverse features the fellow renegade Time Lord, The Master.
Fourth Doctor
The Fourth Doctor was played by Tom Baker from 1974 until 1981 when he died saving the universe from the Master. This incarnation of the Doctor reassembled the Key to Time, tried to reason with Davros at the birth of the Daleks, and was invested as Lord President of the High Council of Time Lords. The scientist Davros, his arch enemy and creator of the deadly Daleks, is featured on this design.
Fifth Doctor
The Fifth Doctor was one of fascination and science, played by Peter Davison from 1981 until 1984. In this fifth body, the Doctor was reunited with his past selves to fight in the Death Zone on Gallifrey. A revengeful Omega, once a stellar engineer and High Council member on Gallifrey, is featured in this coin's design.
Sixth Doctor
The Sixth Doctor, played by Colin Baker from 1984 to 1986, was an explosion of colours, words and emotions. Passionate and sometimes quick to anger, this was a Doctor with whom you would not want to make enemies. The reverse design also depicts a Cyber Controller in the background.
Seventh Doctor
Played by Sylvester McCoy from 1987 until 1996, the Seventh Doctor was both a spoon-playing clown and a master of deep dark secrets who toppled empires in a single night, entertained in the circus of the Gods of Ragnarok, and played chess with the ancient and evil Fenric. A Dalek is also represented in this coin's design.
Eighth Doctor
After dying on the operating table the Doctor regenerated into his eighth form played by Paul McGann in 1996. Mercurial, frenzied and prone to bouts of amnesia, he teamed up with Grace Holloway to save the world from being pulled inside-out by The Master's hijacking of the TARDIS. This coin's reverse depicts the Doctor's 'best enemy' The Master, in a stolen human body, in the background.
Ninth Doctor
The sole survivor of the Last Great Time War, scarred by the terrible things he'd seen and done, the Ninth Doctor was an intense and emotional incarnation played by Christopher Eccleston in 2005. The background features a ruthless Slitheen.
Tenth Doctor
The Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant from 2005 until 2010, woke on Christmas Day in his new form. Reeling from his confrontation with the Time Lords and fatally dosed with radiation, the Tenth Doctor's song ended, as his violent regeneration burned the TARDIS and sent it crashing through space. A possessed Ood is also featured in this coin's reverse design.
Eleventh Doctor
Since 2010, Matt Smith has played the Eleventh Doctor, an excited explorer of the universe, with a keen intelligence that means he often notices what everyone else has missed. A deadly and powerful Weeping Angel is featured in the background. Innovative 'Fob Watch' Presentation Packaging
Each set is packaged in a special presentation case in the shape of the Doctor's fob watch. The fob watch opens to display the 1/2oz coins and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
The eleven-coin set will initially comprise eleven silver coins. A twelfth recess is filled by a coloured token featuring a printed collage of all the Doctors. Niue Legal Tender

I was excited about this right up to the moment I saw the coins. I realize that there is a market for colored coins, but they are not appealing to me. I wish they had a set without the war paint...
im a Dr fan from way back..this is definitely a major release of high quality commemorative coins..I got the 1 0z Tardis case set the other day and its pretty impressive..I think this release will sell out pretty fast and they are gearing the release to sell complete sets......thing is....why doesn't The Royal Mint of the UK do this?....anyways.....im into the Canada Superman release big time and also the Spider Man release by the Isle of NIUE...Ill definitely go for this release but still contemplating..should probably get 2 sets and see where the prices go....definitely I will get the First Dr coin........he is such a lovable old guy and the daleks of the early 60s are cute and hilarious and kind of scary too
coin shoppe retail has the set for 549.......world ancient at 610 and still bidding on ebay....i think it will be quite popular among the British set....im not a huge fan of colorized coins ...im in it partly for the resell..i think it will hit 1000.00 no problem.....Dr Who is pretty big as cult status and the latest BBC productions have really stepped it up to attract the younger audience so this will be a big xmas gift item as well....for the kid that has everything.....
I want it, but 1/2 oz ? Just wish they were a full oz so the coin would be bigger...still may get though..argh, still hurting from all the superman coins lol.
Dr Who is nowhere close to the S Man in popularity..even the coin release is complicated..with Superman you know who the guy is and what he looks like ...where he came from etc ..very simple..with Dr Who youve got 11 guys all related with complicated lives and mysterious stories....too many choices..trust the Brits to make everything complicated..and I'm a Brit so no offense ....im hesitating on the set but the coin shoppe deal looks like the best.... so far....
just put in order for a set of the complicated Dr Who 12 piece coinset.....ill probably get another to resell ....its already being offered at 900.00 in some places like ebay..got mine from Canadian dealer Coin Shoppe..free shipping + 594.00 presale special...and they take PayPal......I love Dr Who but I'm not a fanatic...i like the tenth dr. played by David Tennant and the 9th was pretty good..the recent Dr. 11 I like but I like the girl even more!
i just gopt word from Coinshoppe that they wont get their Dr Who sets till december....looks like these sets are sure winners..thinking about getting another one..i think theyve got the best deal for a canada buyer like myself....however...lets talk about the Gold Dr Coin..this is a coin I am becoming quite interested in....only 250 of them out there......available in the 2550 USD range...any thoughts? or am I just talking to myself in this forum?
I decided to go for the Dr Who Gold and took the plunge......its gonna sellout pretty quickly so if want it at cost nows the time........meanwhile the Silver set has been delayed at Coinshoppe so it wont be until december before I get it.....There seems to be a lot of interest in the Gold and the silver coins with a bunch of ebay listings in silver particularily..The silver coin singles are fetching high prices already.......Low mintage for all these coins which is a definite plus...
checking the Dr Who coin 50th anniversary sales on ebay I notice that the prices seem to be pretty steady in the 125-200 range..The gold coin has 2 listings .....at 2400 us dollar which is a better deal than the NZ mint price of 2524 USD...i guess the fact that bullion is only 1200 these days is keeping this low mintage of 250 coins still available at mint.....im sure the dealers are a bit surprised at the lack of response but when the mintage does sellout that will change the picture considerably...but thats anyones guess...im still glad I bought the gold coin and as a work of Art and scarcity it will eventually rise in price .....but for now it would seem the gold is a slow mover..... for the serious collector only....who is a real fan of the Dr Who series ........
