Why does everyone turn off their email contact. I hate having to show my ignorance just becauseI cannot PM to people.

Charlton 2013 says only 3 certified (up from 2 as shown in the listing). I think I would prefer to see this one certified before purchasing....

I would say no. There are about a dozen of these that have come out of the woodwork in the past two years. That one is corroded, rusted and scratched and not worth the asking price. I bet you could snag it for $600 or less from that seller.

I would think that good, scratch-free examples, of VF grade or better are worth every bit of the prices recently realized. Just wait until a mint state version hits the auction block... that will be the benchmark setter...

Crappy 1906 small crown quarters sell for about that price. This one is at least equally scarce and equally hyped.

I don't think it will get the same kind of attention as the 1906 small crown, until the 1954 NSF gets placed into the PCGS and NGC Registry sets.

People pouring through scrap silver are responsible for many of the 1906 25c small crowns available.

I think dozens of those have been found. There are SIX small crowns available on ebay right now.

Compare to any 1969 large date, where F-12 (how crappy would that look?) trends for $12000.

BTW, Trends says 24 examples of the 1954 5c NSF have been CERTIFIED.

If so, it is probably very scarce, not rare.

With about 24 known there's isn't one for every registry set participant.Perhaps when it is in the registry set composition(it should be,the 1955 NSF cent is) the prices will take a leap.
The number one reason it doesn't attain prices similar to the 1906 small crown is that the ratio of unsearched 1954 nickels vs 1906 quarters is easily 100:1

So, the prices are being held down until the top collectors get one?

Sounds rather elitist.
