I have a large cent here that has a hairline crack on both sides of the coin. The front crosses from the rim to cut off her head. The back side extends from the rim through the center area. At first I though it was complete junk because the lack of detail. But now it appears that it was actually an error during production. The reason I come to the conclusion is one edge appears is thinner for about a half inch gradually getting larger on the other side of the rim. In addition, The wear is obviously heavier on one part of the back of the coin and shadowed on other parts

I'm not sure what to really say about it. It's going to be difficult to accurately attribute this coin, because the level of wear tends to mask whether the reverse defect is a planchet flaw or postmint damage which was then softened by circulation. The fact that there's still viable rim on the outside of the "bad" area is encouraging for it as a planchet error, but inconclusive. Hopefully a little action in this thread will bring out more readers and more opinions.
